We’re delighted to share that Hippo Labs has been crowned HealthTech Company of the Year at the UK Business Tech Awards 2025. For a young company founded in 2022, this feels like a big step forward and a proud moment for the whole team.

Who We Are

Hippo Labs is a London-based health tech company on a mission to free NHS teams from paperwork so they can focus on patients. Co-founded by Sachin Gupta and Alistair McMaster, Hippo started life with a small group of GPs and engineers who wanted to make proactive care easier to deliver at scale.

Our flagship product, Hippo Recaller, automates patient recalls for reviews, immunisations and long-term condition check-ups. In many practices, recalls used to take thousands of staff hours every year and still missed large groups of patients. Hippo Recaller turns that process into a quick, reliable and scalable workflow, helping practices save time, improve access and boost outcomes.

Today, Hippo Recaller supports more than 1 million patients across the UK.

What We’ve Achieved

The numbers speak for themselves:

  • 71 admin days saved per practice per year
  • £7,500 in average annual cost efficiencies
  • Response rates above 50%, compared to an industry average of 20%

Recent examples include:

  • Nightingale GP Surgery booked 2,600+ appointments, saving 826 hours and £11,500
  • A Prostate Cancer UK pilot identified seven new diagnoses, tripling cancer detection in one practice
  • A London practice raised its QOF score from 83% to 97% in just six months

As one practice leader told us:
“The Hippo Recaller has completely changed our practice. What used to be challenging is now quick and simple.” – Sunil, Managing Partner at Penrose Health

Why This Award Matters

Winning HealthTech Company of the Year is a milestone, but it also feels like validation for the wider shift happening in Primary Care. Technology does not need to be flashy to make a difference. Sometimes the “boring” automation tools are the ones that give staff the headspace to breathe and patients the care they need on time.

In just three years we’ve grown from start-up to national impact. Along the way we’ve:

  • Joined the DigitalHealth.London Accelerator (2023 cohort)
  • Hosted a roundtable at 10 Downing Street on the role of AI in Primary Care (2025)
  • Expanded to support hundreds of thousands of patients and practices across the UK
  • And now, been named HealthTech Company of the Year 2025 🎉

This award matters to us because it shows that impact at the front line (freeing up staff time, improving early diagnosis, making care more proactive) is finally being recognised on the big stage.

Our Awards Journey

We also want to give a big thank you to the Don’t Panic Events team. The awards entry process was smooth, fair and well-run. It made us stop, reflect and celebrate wins that we don’t always take time to acknowledge. The support from the team has been excellent, and the visibility these awards bring is already helping us start new conversations across the sector.

For a young company, it means a lot to be in the same room as some of the UK’s leading tech innovators.

This is just the beginning. The mission stays the same: build technology that makes NHS teams’ lives easier and patients’ lives better. But for today, we’ll take a moment to celebrate.
