Supporting NHS Digital Transformation at Scale: How Trusted Technology Partnership Delivered a Pioneering NHS.net Migration for University Hospitals Dorset

The team at Trusted Technology Partnership are proud to be shortlisted for the Best Application of Technology – Public Sector Award, recognising our work with University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) to deliver a pioneering NHS.net migration.

As one of the first organisations selected under the NHS Unite programme, UHD became a national pilot site for transitioning from a locally managed Microsoft 365 environment to the centrally governed N365 platform, an initiative designed to improve collaboration, resilience, and standardisation across NHS England.

With 30 years of experience supporting NHS organisations, Trusted Technology Partnership brought deep sector knowledge, a collaborative delivery approach, and a strong focus on measurable outcomes to this complex transformation.

Our Projects & Programmes Director, Ed Bramall, had this to say;

“Being shortlisted for this award is something we’re genuinely proud of as a team. It reflects not only the outcome of the project, but the people behind it and the commitment shown at every stage. There was a strong sense of collaboration throughout, with everyone working together to keep things moving. It means a great deal to see that recognised, particularly given the care and attention invested. Supporting NHS organisations with reliable expertise that enables exceptional patient care is central to everything we do.”

Navigating a complex and time-critical migration

The migration needed to be completed within an accelerated timeframe, with no established blueprint to follow due to UHD’s position as an early adopter and pilot site for the Unite migration programme. Despite tight deadlines, it was critical to ensure zero disruption to clinical services. This required a malleable delivery approach that could adapt to the realities of a busy healthcare environment.

The complexity of the migration was further increased by the breadth of teams, systems, and dependencies that needed to be carefully managed and accounted for at every stage of the process.

A structured, multi-workstream approach

To address these challenges, we implemented a multi-workstream delivery model that provided clear ownership, reduced risk and maintained momentum throughout the programme.

Our team was appointed to deliver:

  • Technical consultancy and platform readiness
  • End-to-end delivery and migration support
  • Information governance and compliance frameworks
  • Comprehensive stakeholder engagement and communications

A key element of the project included assessing over 300 application dependencies, alongside conducting detailed gap analysis between the existing localised system structure to the centralised national model. This meant that no critical systems were overlooked and that migration risks were proactively managed, ensuring no disruption to patient care.

By combining technical delivery with strong governance and communication workstreams, we were able to keep all stakeholders and end users aligned, build confidence across the whole organisation, supporting smooth adoption of the new environment.

Delivering measurable impact for UHD and the wider NHS

The impact of this migration delivered both immediate value for UHD and far-reaching, long-term benefits for both the organisation and the wider NHS Unite programme.

UHD has already realised reduced licensing costs, with a payback period of just six months, freeing up budget for further initiatives that support improvements in patient care. By transitioning to a centrally managed system, the organisation has also gained increased efficiency and stronger collaboration with local and national NHS partners, ultimately enhancing service delivery. In addition, improved governance and communication frameworks have strengthened security and data protection.

Beyond the local impact, the project has established a scalable framework that can be replicated across NHS organisations, supporting wider digital transformation at a national level.

A partnership built on collaboration

Collaboration was central to the success of this project, not only within UHD, but across partners involved in the wider programme. Russell King, Director of IT Infrastructure for Dorset Providers and Deputy CDO, reflected on our work together:

“Trusted Technology Partnership provided clear NHS-focused expertise from the start, giving us confidence in the direction and structure of the migration. Their collaborative approach, strong communication, and well-planned delivery framework made the process smooth and easy to engage with.

By combining solid technical preparation with effective governance support, they kept stakeholders aligned and ensured progress stayed on track. Their work also enabled productive collaboration with NHS England’s implementation partner, Accenture. They proved themselves to be a reliable, capable partner we’d be happy to work with again.”

What being shortlisted means

Being shortlisted for this award means a lot to our team and represents a significant milestone for Trusted Technology Partnership. Reinforcing our commitment to delivering impactful, high-quality outcomes for our clients. It provides valuable recognition of the expertise within our team, the strength of our partnerships, and the measurable difference our work makes across the healthcare sector.

It also reflects the importance of collaboration in driving meaningful digital transformation. From our internal teams through to UHD and wider NHS stakeholders, this achievement demonstrates what can be accomplished when organisations work together with a shared goal. We are proud to be recognised alongside other innovators in the public sector and remain focused on continuing to support the NHS with scalable, future-ready solutions.
